Lawn Mowing - Most people don't realize how much proper mowing contributes to the overall
health and appearance of their home lawn. Proper mowing is one of the most important practices in keeping your lawn healthy. Here at Midwest Tree and
Maintenance we can maintain your lawn for you the right way. The act of mowing isn't what makes a lawn look good. Mowing height and mowing frequency
determine how healthy and attractive your lawn looks. Call us today to schedule us for your lawn care.
Lawn Conditioning - Compacted soil restricts the movement of water and air to roots of plant life. The soil under lawns tends to compact readily
because, unlike garden soil, it is virtually never worked or turned. Intensively maintained lawns should be aerated twice a
year or lawns with heavily compacted soil or severe thatch problems should be aerated twice a year. For other lawns, lawn aeration once a year
is sufficient. It consists of perforating the soil with either small or large holes, which allow water, air and fertilizer to get to the roots.
Hydro seeding - Hydro seeding is becoming a popular means of planting grass due to its relative ease of use and effectiveness.
Hydro seeding is a process by which seed, water, fertilizer, fiber mulch, and sometimes lime are blended together in a tank and applied onto a prepared lawn area through
a spraying hose. Once sprayed, the wet fiber mulch will help create a bond to the soil and provide the seeds with a water retaining blanketing-coat
while protecting it from sunlight, wind, and erosion. As the grass seeds begin to germinate, the fiber mulch will slowly decompose adding nutrients to
the soil.
- If you are planting a relatively large area, hydro seeding
can be completed in a very short period of time.
- Hydro seeding can be very effective for hillsides and sloping lawns to help with erosion control and quick planting.
- Hydro seeding will typically cost less than planting with sod, but more than regular seeding.
- Results are often quick with high germination rates producing grass growth in about a week and mowing maintenance
beginning around 3-4 weeks from the date of application. Fiber mulch accelerates the growing process by maintaining moisture
around the seeds thereby increasing the rate of germination.
Sod - When establishing a lawn, sod gives immediate results. Seeding starts out thin as small seedlings that leave ample space for weeds to establish and compete
with turf. Seeding is more feasible in the North because seed like ryegrass and fescue will germinate and establish quickly; but options in the South
are limited to moderate to lengthy germination periods.
Shrub Planting - Shrubs have many uses within the landscape such as foundation plantings, privacy hedges, and specimen plants. They can be used
as backdrops, to define garden beds, and to simply add seasonal interest. Foliage differs from plant to plant so look for foliage colors that will create
a pleasing visual effect and subtle contrast to the other plants within the landscape. Fall foliage colors can range from silver, gold, and variegated
varieties to red, purple, and dark green.
